What is a technique class? What is meant by technique?
Well, on one level it is how to get things done--but it is really much
more than that. It should contain at least four elements:
- understanding how you work
- understanding what creative tools are available for the actor
- understanding what is necessary to maintain creative ideas
- understanding how to organize your work
Stanley Harrison has been teaching acting technique class at 13th
Street Rep since 1990. Class uses the great creative
ideas of the Russian teachers including Michael Chekhov.
Terms: Class is $30 per class (which is a $10 reduction for members of
the rep.). You must commit to one term, which is 3 months. Class meets
once a week for 2 hours.
If you are interested in taking class, please call Stanley ASAP. He will
collect the schedules of those who are interested and arrange a time for
the class to meet.
Stanley has recently directed "The Cat and the Moon" by Tom
O'Neill and "Jack Kerouac, Last Call" also by Tom O'Neill. He
has been training and teaching actors for over forty years. He is a graduate
of the Yale School of Drama, where he studied with late Professor Constance
Welch, one of the finest teachers in the American Theatre. In addition,
he studied and worked with the Directors of the National Theatres of Denmark
and Holland. As an actor he has appeared in over three hundred roles.
His directing and teaching experiences are equally numerous. His teaching
technique is centered around basics, such as: How to reach new creative
levels and how to maintain them ? how to organize the tools available
to reach your goals. What makes stanley's technique singularly different
is that its purpose is to move you "out" of the class and on
to the stage.
